Recent reports from the city of Al Fasher in Sudan’s Darfur region reveal a human catastrophe. After eighteen months under siege by the Rapid Support Forces militia, the city has turned into a site of mass executions and ethnic cleansing following the militia’s recent assault. According to the United Nations and independent research centers, hundreds of civilians, including women and children, have been killed during the city’s capture, and satellite images show newly dug mass graves. The people of Al Fasher remain trapped in hunger and destruction while global and regional powers either stay silent or openly side with one of the warring parties.

This war is not an “internal conflict” but a power struggle between two factions of Sudan’s military bourgeoisie -the official army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces commanded by Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti- who have sacrificed the people to their class ambitions for control over the country’s wealth, trade routes, and gold mines and who receive direct and indirect backing from imperialist powers and reactionary regional governments, including Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The Darfur catastrophe continues the same imperialist order that uses war, famine, and debt to keep African nations in chains of dependency and silences every voice that calls for freedom and equality through bloodshed.

The international bureau of the Communist Party of Iran strongly condemns these horrific crimes and expresses deep solidarity with the working class and revolutionary forces of Sudan who resist the warlords, capitalists, and their imperialist supporters. The Committee calls on all communist parties, labor movements, and freedom-seeking organizations to raise their voices against this tragedy and to unite in internationalist solidarity with the suffering people of Sudan to form a common front against imperialism and reaction.
