Statement of the Coordination Council of Iranian Left and Communist Forces: No to the Reactionary War of Israel and the Islamic Regime
2025-06-17

The Israeli attack on Friday 13th June caught the Islamic regime off guard, just as it was preparing to participate in the sixth round of negotiations with the United States in Muscat on Sunday. The regime’s baseless nuclear deterrence strategy—built at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars and the economic misery of tens of millions of Iranians—collapsed. After the initial shock, which affected the entire regime due to the loss of senior IRGC and nuclear commanders, the Islamic rulers have since last night begun launching missile attacks on Israel.
However, how this war will end—especially given that the Islamic ruling class has tied its legitimacy from the start to the destruction of Israel—alongside the final resolution of the nuclear issue (whose countdown began with the recent IAEA Board of Governors meeting), could very well become the axis of internal disputes and major splits within the regime.
As was evident before and has been reconfirmed since the start of the Israeli attacks yesterday, the majority of the Iranian people will not stand with the Islamic regime in any war. The true war of the Iranian people is the fight against the entire Islamic regime, aimed at its revolutionary overthrow. This struggle began in December 2017 and continued with the murder of Mahsa Amini and the revolutionary movement of 2022. From the regime’s perspective, the real threat to its existence is not Israel, but the Iranian people. Thus, the Islamic regime will try to exploit Israel’s attack to its own benefit by suppressing the various ongoing social and class movements that were active prior to the Israeli assault.
It is no secret that the racist Israeli regime—which denies millions in Gaza access to food, medicine, and basic survival needs, and whose Prime Minister Netanyahu is under international arrest warrants for genocide—is an ally and friend of the monarchist fascists and Reza Pahlavi, not the Iranian people. The fascist Israeli regime and the Islamic regime serve as each other’s justification for existence and continue their criminal rule by pointing to the other. Both are enemies of workers, the toiling masses, and of any form of progress and freedom in the region.
Without a doubt, this war will not force the Iranian masses—who are determined to rid themselves of the entirely corrupt and criminal Islamic system—into passivity. Social and class movements in Iran, in collaboration with leftist and communist forces and progressive organizations, will find ways to continue their struggle against the Islamic regime, against Israel, and its monarchist allies.
