Statement: In the face of the threat of an expanding war between two reactionary poles, let us intensify the struggle for the revolutionary overthrow of the Islamic Republic

While the sixth round of nuclear negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic in Iran was scheduled to take place in Muscat on Sunday, June 15, on Thursday night and early hours of Friday, June 13, 2025, the Israeli military launched a far more intense and extensive operation than its two previous attacks, targeting dozens of nuclear facilities, defense systems, military bases, and locations housing senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This operation, carried out with the knowledge and coordination of the United States government, is being used as leverage to advance the nuclear negotiations and force the Islamic Republic into submission. During the strike, atomic installations and military centers were destroyed, and several senior commanders of the IRGC and the Iranian army were killed. The coordinated airstrike by Israeli Air Force fighter-bombers, in collaboration with Mossad, once again demonstrated the vulnerability of the Islamic Republic’s defensive, security, and intelligence infrastructure—despite the bluster and exaggerations of Khamenei and IRGC commanders. One day prior, the United States had evacuated its embassies in the region in preparation for potential retaliatory actions by the Islamic Republic. Nevertheless, the regime was unable to even secure a safe location for a meeting of IRGC commanders.

The IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists are being consumed in a war ignited in large part by the Islamic Republic itself. However, the consequences of the continuation of this war, the bombings, and the missile confrontations between the Islamic Republic and the governments of Israel and the United States will not remain confined to these events. Beyond the spread of insecurity, the threat of nuclear radiation, and deepening economic poverty and misery, this military escalation and intensification of the war situation primarily serve to delay the development and advancement of workers’ and popular struggles, as well as the revolutionary movement to overthrow the Islamic Republic. By exploiting the wartime climate, intensifying repression, and enforcing a police-state conditions, the Islamic Republic aims to disrupt the progress of the revolutionary struggle to overthrow the regime and to suppress its own internal enemy.

The United States government still does not seek the overthrow of the Islamic Republic; rather, it aims to compel the regime to surrender in the nuclear negotiations by leveraging the pressure created by Israeli military operations. However, if the Islamic Republic persists in its uranium enrichment efforts on Iranian soil and continues its current course of adventurism, military and missile confrontations will escalate. Alongside continued bombings, efforts to establish an alternative government—through the involvement of bourgeois and right-wing opposition forces—will increasingly become part of a broader U.S.-Israeli project to shape a regional order in the Middle East according to their strategic vision. In the regional order envisioned by the United States and Israel, there is no place for a nuclear-armed Islamic Republic.

Therefore, as we have repeatedly emphasized, the conflict between the Islamic Republic and the United States and Israel over the nuclear program has nothing to do with the interests of the working class or the people of Iran and the region. As part of its survival strategy, the Islamic Republic has spent hundreds of billions of dollars from the nation’s wealth—generated through the labor and exploitation of Iranian workers and toilers—on nuclear projects and programs, the consequences of which have directly harmed the people of Iran. This conflict between the Islamic Republic and the U.S.-Israel axis is a continuation of their existing policies and represents a reactionary and capitalist confrontation on both sides. In order to protect themselves from the dangers of this escalating war, the working class, the toiling masses, and freedom-seeking people of Iran have no alternative but to expand and intensify their struggle against the Islamic Republic, increase their efforts to organize their ranks, and build a nationwide leadership to lead a mass uprising and revolutionary overthrow of the regime. At the same time, it must not be allowed that certain enthusiastic bourgeois opposition forces mislead the people into premature actions—such as uprisings—that require a high level of organization and preparedness which, at present, does not yet exist.

The Communist Party of Iran, while condemning this reactionary conflict and war, calls upon all workers, toilers, and freedom-seeking people of Iran to broaden and intensify the struggle for the revolutionary overthrow of the Islamic Republic. It urges the activists and vanguard elements of the workers’ movement and other progressive social movements to expand their efforts in organizing and building a unified and nationwide leadership. Only through accelerating and intensifying the efforts and struggle to prepare the necessary conditions for the revolutionary overthrow of the Islamic Republic can the people of Iran and the region be freed from the tyranny of this criminal regime. This is also the only way to neutralize the efforts of bourgeois and right-wing opposition forces to impose a top-down alternative, and to offer a clear and hopeful horizon to the workers and oppressed peoples of the Middle East in the face of the imperialist and reactionary regional order sought by the United States and Israel.

No to this reactionary war
Down with the Islamic Republic
Long live freedom, equality, and workers’ rule
