Press Release on Holding Iranian Left and Communist Forces’ Conference in Stockholm

On Saturday, January 10, 2026, a conference titled ‘The Changing Political Situation, Social Movements, and the Position and Role of Left and Communist Forces’ was held in Stockholm, Sweden by Iranian Left and Communist Organizations Cooperation Council.
The conference opened with the singing of the Internationale and a one-minute silence in tribute to those who lost their lives for freedom. This was followed by speeches from representatives of the parties and organizations that are members of the Council, who presented their analyses and assessments of various aspects of the ongoing developments in Iran from different perspectives.
The conference also provided ample opportunity for guests and attendees to express their views, and more than 30 participants and socialist activists shared their opinions on the issues and points of concern to them. The conference concluded successfully with brief closing remarks by the speakers and the playing of the Internationale.
At the conference, several messages addressed to the conference by activists in the labor and student movements from Iran were also announced and read in parts by the board of directors.
This conference was held amid a rapidly changing social situation and the hopes raised by popular protests to overthrow the Islamic Republic. While expressing deep revulsion at the widespread and brutal killing of demonstrators by the Islamic regime’s murderers, the conference declared its solidarity and sympathy with the families and all those who lost their loved ones.
In the discussions, concerns were addressed regarding the counterrevolutionary efforts of right-wing and fascist currents to confront the social protests, as well as imperialist intervention aimed at controlling and appropriating the people’s struggle for change from above. These issues shaped the atmosphere of the conference, the participants’ debates, and the proposals for intervention by left and communist forces and social movements under these political conditions, with an emphasis on strengthening the council-based (shorai) alternative.
On Sunday, January 11, 2026, in light of the conference discussions, a special meeting of the representatives of the forces within the Cooperation Council was held. At this meeting, the conference debates were summed up, and the issuance of a political document and messages addressed to workers, women, political prisoners, and the families of those who lost their lives—as well as a condemnation of the genocide of the Palestinian people—were approved.
At this session, strategies for the qualitative and quantitative expansion of the Council’s activities and for more effective use of cooperative and promotional tools were also examined and emphasized. The documents and messages of this meeting will be published soon.
